Checklist Class Climate

To map the classroom climate, the “Checklist Class Climate” is used. This is an observation scale that can be used within education; from kindergarten to higher education.

The Checklist Class Climate consists of four subscales:

‘Atmosphere’ is about the degree to which people can experience class life as pleasant, about the degree of collective well-being.

‘Relationships between students’ refers to the way in which students interact with each other and to the quality of the relationships they have built up with each other.

‘Relationship with the teacher’ refers to the way in which the teacher and pupils interact and the quality of that relationship.

‘Structure and rules’ refers to the fact that the climate is determined by the extent to which the classroom life goes smoothly and more specifically the way in which students deal with rules and agreements
